Volunteers: Roles & Responsibilities

CPV is all volunteer-run, operating CPV year-round. We are CPV due to sustained efforts from members of the community and general public, thank you. We send out a semi-annual call for volunteers for all roles.

Program Committee - Member

General Info, Responsibilities & Requirements

Our CFP process may not be 100% academic, civic, or industry, but our diversity and broad range of contributions allows for high impact work and cultivates a meaningful and unique community. As individuals and as a collective, the breadth and depth of both past and present PC members are our pride and joy. PC members range from: cryptography, privacy (e.g. engineering, law/policy), security, public health, education (e.g. academia, K-12), and more.

All members rank their expertise per paper. Members may be assigned papers throughout the CFP season - typically spanning four months.

Main responsibilities:
- Review assigned papers during 2025 CFP season in subject matter expertise
- Review papers during 2025 CFP season using our template questionnaire format
- June 2025: Attend annual Program Committee meeting to deliberate CFP (virtual, 1.5-2 hours)

Optional:
- Have a 1-on-1 pairing session or mentor author(s) throughout the 2025 CFP season
- Attend PC meetings and working sessions (online), participate on #program-committee-12, 1-on-1s with PC members
- Attend and volunteer at CPV 12!
- Assist and complete tasks delegated by PC Chair(s)

Member Requirements:
- Relevant, substantial, or notable experience, and/or Subject Matter Expertise
- Conflicts of Interest disclosures (added to your site profiles - inform the PC Chair(s))

- Volunteer Time Commitment: up to 5 hours/week (March – June, Optional: June – July, August at DEF CON)
